Although there are several methods to soften a lacrosse mesh, one of the most common approaches is to soak the mesh in fabric softener. This method takes under 30 minutes to complete, followed by several hours of drying time. The required materials are a lacrosse mesh, a table or other flat surface, a 12-ounce cup, a sink, and 1 ½ cups of fabric softener.
- Prepare the mesh
Remove the mesh from the packaging. Lay it out on a flat surface, such as a table. Roll it tightly along the longest axis.
- Soak the mesh
Place the rolled mesh into a 12-ounce cup. The cup height must be greater than the mesh. Fill the cup with fabric softener. This requires about 1 ¼ to 1 ½ cups of fabric softener. Allow the mesh soak for 20 minutes.
- Rinse the mesh
Over a sink, remove the mesh from the cup, and discard the fabric softener. Using warm water, rinse the mesh thoroughly.
- Stretch the mesh
Stretch the mesh out in all directions. Pull it horizontally and vertically to work all of the fibers.
- Dry the mesh
Lay the mesh out flat, and allow it to dry. This takes several hours. Repeat this method if a softer mesh is desired.
