ESPN.com, CBSSports.com, FoxSports.com, SI.com and the USA Today all publish National Collegiate Athletic Association football rankings for all three divisions. Many of the sports information outlets publish multiple ranking systems for Division I schools, including polls by the NCAA, coaches and sportswriters associations.
Most of the rankings generated by the sites come from select member voting. The NCAA appoints a selection committee of 13 individuals, as of 2015, to decide the rankings for teams that make the playoffs. USA Today administers the coach’s poll based on ballots from the American College Football Association, and the Associated Press conducts voting among sportswriters. A computer uses mathematical values assigned to performances to generate Sagarin rankings.
