To find California trout fishing season dates, visit Wildlife.ca.gov's Fishing in California page, click Regulations under Freshwater Fishing, and download the latest PDF file of Freshwater Sport Fishing Regulations. Scroll through to the section on trout and salmon regulations, and check the fishing season dates by district and area.
The Californian trout fishing season generally runs from the last Saturday in April through to mid-November. However, some districts, or waters within districts, have year-round open seasons, while others are closed to all fishing all year. A few areas have shorter seasons. Scroll to the end of the regulations booklet to view a map showing California's Sport Fishing Districts. The regulations also state the daily bag and possession limits for each area.
