According to editors of The Old Farmer's Almanac, fish tend to feed most at sunset, sunrise and during high tides. Tides are higher during full moons than they are during the rest of the month, which makes those days optimal for fishing. When it comes to the best time to fish on those days, the publication recommends one hour before and one hour after high tides. While fish aren't feeding during low tides, making fishing more difficult, it is easier to catch them at this time if the moon is full.
The Old Farmer's Almanac also suggests fishing shortly after sunrise and just before and just after sunset as well as when the barometer is steady or rising. Fish keep feeding even during rainy conditions, so many fishermen try their luck even during inclement weather. Other good fishing conditions offered in the publication include when the breeze is coming from a westerly direction and when water is still or slightly rippled, rather than during a brisk wind.Learn more about Water Sports & Activities
