Gymnastics is a sport divided into men's and women's competitions. Several men's events are performed on standandized equipment, including the horizontal bar, parallel bars, rings, pommel horse and vault. Men also compete in floor exercises.
Gymnastics is a high-skill sport characterized by physical artistry, strength and grace. Although Olympic gymnasts train for years to achieve prominence and recognition, the skills learned in recreational gymnastics training are easily transferred to everyday life. These skills include keeping one's body in good physical shape, keeping a positive mental attitude and consistently working toward a goal in spite of setbacks, all of which help the gymnast tackle challenges outside of the gym.
