Full Answer

Born on June 24, 1931, Casper started golfing at the age of 5. He attended the University of Notre Dame on a golf scholarship, but returned to his hometown of San Diego to get married and start his professional golf career.

Despite his winning record, Casper did not become a household name like his fellow competitors Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player. Casper was inducted in the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1978.
