Some of the teams that competed in the 2015 NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Championship included national champion Florida Southern and other regulars Philadelphia, Seattle Pacific, Gannon and Central Missouri, the defending winners from 2014. Drury, the 2013 national champion, and perennial powerhouse Metro State also made the 64-team field.
Philadelphia's 2015 bid was the 34th in school history and more than any other team in the tournament. Florida Southern's 77-62 defeat of Indiana University of Pennsylvania in the championship game marked its second national title; the other came in the 1980-1981 season. Bids by Seattle Pacific and Gannon marked their 25th and 24th in school history, respectively. Two-time champion Central Missouri also cut down the nets in 1984. Metro State entered the 2015 championship with an astounding 42-16 record in 19 previous appearances; Drury began the event with a 12-8 overall record in postseason play.
In their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division II tournament, Azusa Pacific did not disappoint, reaching the Elite Eight before falling to runner-up Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Other teams making the field for the first time included the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, Mercyhurst, North Greenville, University of the Sciences and Western Oregon.
The field of 64 included 22 teams awarded automatic bids for winning their respective conference and 42 others granted at-large berths by the selection committee.
