Jay-Z sold his shares of the Brooklyn Nets to Wilber Pan, who is a rapper, actor and entrepreneur. This deal made Pan the first Taiwanese-American to own a sports franchise in the United States. When Jay-Z was a minority owner of the Brooklyn Nets, he owned less than 0.07 percent of the franchise.
The team officially became the Brooklyn Nets on April 30, 2012. Prior to this date, the team was called the New Jersey Nets.
