Airsoft guns are replica firearms that fire small plastic pellets. They are used in the sport of Airsoft, in which teams usually simulate military battlefields.
Airsoft guns are generally modeled after real-world firearms, but sometimes have a distinctive marking (such as an orange barrel tip) so that they can be quickly identified as non-lethal. Airsoft guns may be powered by springs, electricity or gas cartridges, with the gas-powered models having the highest muzzle velocity. Rules about owning and carrying Airsoft guns in public vary widely between countries, states and cities. Some states do not allow Airsoft guns to be carried in public due to their close resemblance to lethal firearms.
