The 2016 Rio Summer Olympics began on Aug. 5, 2016, and ended on Aug. 21st, 2016. The Games took place in four zones of the city: Barra, Copacabana, Deodoro and Maracan√£. Rio de Janiero was the first city in South America to host the Olympic Games and the only non-Australian city in the southern hemisphere to host them.
