Bishop Carroll High School in Wichita, Kansas, finished first in the final 2015 MaxPreps national high school softball rankings. The site's Xcellent 50 ranks the top 50 teams in the United States based on the opinions of MaxPreps' writers. Bishop Carroll went 25-0 and won the Kansas state 5A championship.
The Bishop Carroll Golden Eagles earned their final ranking with years of winning. As of the end of the 2015 season, they had not lost a game since 2010. The #2 team in the rankings was Yucaipa High School, winners of California's Southern Section Division 2 title with a 31-3 record. The Thunderbirds achieved their #2 ranking by knocking off #3 Mission Viejo High School in their section championship game. McCracken County High School in Kentucky ranked fourth and Aledo High School in Texas ranked fifth. A pair of undefeated teams, Sherwood High School in Maryland and Southington High School in Connecticut, ranked sixth and seventh. Other undefeated teams in the poll were #22 Enka High School in North Carolina, #33 East High School in Alaska and #49 Chase County High School in Kansas.
In addition to the Xcellent poll, MaxPreps also offers computer rankings. The computer formula rated Mission Viejo High School first in the nation despite their championship game loss. Hargrave High School in Texas, which was not in the top 50 of the poll, was ranked second by the computers. Meanwhile, Bishop Carroll ranked only #197 in the nation in the computer rankings despite their undefeated season.
