What Year Was Electricity Invented?

Since electricity is a natural occurrence, no one actually invented it. Some people have the misconception that Benjamin Franklin discovered electricity, but in truth, he only connected the dots between electricity and lightning.

Even though most people refer to Franklin as discovering electricity, he was not the first person to discover it. In 600 BC, the Greeks discovered that when they rubbed fur on amber, it created a small electrical charger or "static electricity." In the 1600s, several physicians and scientists used the word electricity when describing some of their work, studies and inventions. Throughout time, a number of different people have had a hand at creating the electricity that most people have in their home.
