Most women begin growing pubic hair between the ages of 8 and 13 years old. This is normally the time when puberty starts to occur.
Puberty marks the transition from childhood to adulthood. It begins when the pituitary gland, located in the brain, sends a signal to the female ovaries. When this happens, a massive fluctuation in hormone levels causes several changes throughout the female body. Breasts start to develop. Sweat glands become more active, and the skin may become oily, contributing to a rise in acne and other skin blemishes. During this time is also when the growth of pubic hair becomes noticeable. It usually starts with just a few fine hairs, but later becomes thicker and curlier as puberty progresses.
