What Is the Weather Like in Mexico in December?

Temperatures in Mexico in December vary considerably based on location, with cooler temperatures inland and warmer weather in coastal areas. Mexico City, a central location in Mexico, has an average daily temperature of 69 degrees Fahrenheit in December, while cities on the Pacific Coast and Yucatan Peninsula average in the mid to upper-80s throughout the month. These mild and dry conditions make December an ideal time to visit the country.

Humidity remains high especially during mornings in December in Mexico. However, because the rainy season has ended by this point, there is rarely rain throughout the month. Tourist hot spots such as Cabo San Lucas, Acapulco, Puerto Vallarta and Cancun are largely unoccupied during this off-season period and, with temperatures hovering in the 80s throughout the month, make a great setting for relaxing on the beach.

On the Pacific coast and Yucatan Peninsula, nighttime temperatures drop into the mid-60s. However, inland night temperatures can get well into the 40 and 50 degree-Fahrenheit range, making it important to carry a light jacket or wrap when out in the evening after dark. During the day, sunscreen, a sun hat and sunglasses are necessary for comfort when people are out exploring, shopping or at the beach.
