The planet Venus’ nicknames are the Morning Star and the Evening Star. From Earth, the planet sometimes looks like a bight star in the morning and the evening skies.

The Earth’s closest neighbor, Venus is the brightest object in the sky after the sun and the moon. When Venus is on one side of the sun, the sky is dark enough for it to be visible. When Venus is at its brightest, it becomes visible just minutes after sunset, which is why it is called the Evening Star. When Venus is on the other side of the sun, it leads the sun as it travels. Venus rises in the morning a few hours before sunrise, which is why it is known as the Morning Star.
