Water is considered to have a neutral pH, which means it is neither acidic nor alkaline. The body can only handle certain pH levels, and anything above or below that level can be toxic. In cooking, pH is used to balance the flavors of food. Natural foods, such as vegetables, are often considered alkaline, while processed foods such as bread and cereal are acidic.
The body has its own preferred pH range that must be maintained through proper nutrition and lifestyle. Consuming too many acidic foods and beverages can cause heartburn and constipation over time. Having a low pH in the body can also lead to problems with the skin, circulatory issues, respiratory ailments and immune system disorders.
The water used on a daily basis for cooking, cleaning and showering should also fall within a certain pH range to ensure acidic water does not absorb into the skin or cause problems with pipes. Many foods must maintain a certain pH during the production process to ensure they are of a certain quality.Learn more about Acids & Bases
