The Tornado Intercept Vehicle (TIV) is a heavy armored vehicle designed by film director Sean Casey to film the inside of a tornado. In May 2013, Casey's TIV intercepted a tornado in Kansas and captured it on film.
The original TIV was a 1997 Ford F-Super Duty truck which was armored with 1/4-inch steel plate and fitted with bullet-resistant polycarbonate windows. It was featured on the Discovery Channel's TV show "Storm Chasers." Casey replaced this vehicle with the TIV2, a Dodge Ram truck converted to six-wheel drive and fitted with similar armor as well as hydraulic skirts which deflect wind away from the TIV2 and protect it from debris. The TIV2 was the vehicle that drove into the tornado in May 2013.
