Sunrun is a privately-held United States residential solar energy company that announced in May 2014 that it had acquired $150 million in equity. Without divulging the name of the investor, the company claimed that a single public institutional investor was responsible for the first $100 million. Sunrun referred to the private equity investment as the largest so far in the U.S. residential solar energy field.
Sunrun's website claims that its solar panel installations can lower homeowners' electric bills by 20 percent. The site also claims it has made more than 60,000 installations and that its installation partners complete a new installation every 10 minutes.
Headquartered in San Francisco, California, Sunrun operates in 12 states in the eastern and western U.S. The company also provides its customers with post-installation maintenance, monitoring and repairs. Sunrun was founded in January 2007, and it raised $12 million by June 2008 from its first round of venture-capital fundraising.
