What Is the Structure of NaCl?

Sodium chloride, or NaCl, is an ionic compound with a three-dimensional lattice structure. The sodium ions are positive while the chloride ions are negative. They are attracted by electrostatic nuclear forces, whcih causes the ions to arrange in a lattice structure.

Each sodium ion is joined to six chloride ions to form a crystal, which is referred to as a giant lattice or a giant ionic structure. Electrovalent bonds are formed between the sodium and chloride ions through the transfer of electrons from the sodium atom to the chlorine atom. These bonds are also called ionic bonds, as they form between ions.
