When fossil fuels are burned, they release carbon monoxide into the atmosphere that is believed to negatively affect Earth's climate and contribute to global warming. A reduction in fossil fuel usage slows climate change and helps aid in the preservation of Earth's atmosphere.
There are many things that can be done to reduce daily energy requirements, such as reducing hot water use, shutting down appliances when not in use and using fluorescent light bulbs instead of regular light bulbs. Properly weatherproofing the home, keeping curtains and windows closed at night and using upgraded insulation in walls can greatly reduce daily energy needs at home. Reusing or recycling waste like glass, metal or newspapers can also aid in reducing the amount of carbon monoxide that is released into the atmosphere.
