A Ruda plant, also known as a Rue, is an evergreen shrub that can grow to approximately 3 feet tall. The plant has round stalks that are typically single stems with leaves clustering about three quarters from the base of the plant.
The stalks of a Ruda plant are hard and possess a sandy color when broken. The layer underneath the exterior bark of a Ruda plant is soft, moist and light green, but the next layer is white, tough and dry and cannot be peeled off the plant. The Ruda plant is commonly used as a herbal seasoning and a flavoring for food and teas.
