Rock and gem shows gather geological enthusiasts who display fossils, rocks, gemstones, meteorites and jewelry. The key is that all products at rock and gem shows come from rocks and minerals. Dealers, buyers and sellers gather at rock and gem shows to deal their wares.
State and local mineralogical organizations sponsor these gatherings, some of which last three days in a row over a weekend. The Tucson Gem and Mineral Show, held over four days in February, touts itself as the largest such show in the United States. The 61st annual event, held in 2015, will feature the theme "Minerals of Western Europe." The Tuscon Gem and Mineral Society sponsors the rock and gem show, an event open to the public with retail dealers only.
