Best Buy stores accept nearly any type of electronic, including large appliances. There are exceptions, however. For instance, the store accepts TVs, VCRs and jewel cases for CDs and DVDs but does not accept rooftop dishes, screens and TV antennas. Some Best Buy Mobile stores also recycle electronics, though the list of accepted electronics is much more selective than the list at the larger stores.
Recycling electronics saves energy and cuts back on the amount of greenhouse gases emitted into the air. Energy is used to mine the metals required to manufacture electronics. Energy is used again and greenhouse gases are emitted when those metals are used to manufacture electronics. Metals can be reused instead of mined if electronics are recycled.
The amount of energy recycling 1 million laptops saves is equal to the amount of energy produced by more than 3,500 homes in the United States every year. Recycling 1 million cell phones recovers 35,000 pounds of copper, 772 pounds of silver, 75 pounds of gold and 33 pounds of palladium.Learn more about Sustainability
