What Is the Process of Breathing?
Breathing, in simple terms, is the act of inhaling oxygen and exhaling carbon dioxide. This is a crucial function of the body.
Breathing, otherwise known as respiration, is a complicated process. According to the University of Miami, the respiratory system works to supply the body with oxygen, while it also works to remove carbon dioxide from the body. It does this in several steps. The oxygen is inhaled from the air into the lungs where it goes out to the blood for transport to the rest of the body. The blood gives out carbon dioxide that is carried to the lungs and exhaled out of the body. The many different parts of the respiratory system work together to maintain respiration. These include the nasal cavity, mouth, windpipe, bronchi, bronchioles, alveoli, diaphragm, phrenic nerves and muscles.
