What Are the Positive and Negative Impacts of the Green Revolution?

According to Education Portal, the Green Revolution had negative effects on the environment and society, whereas the movement had positive effects on food productivity, prices and quantity. The Green Revolution was a period of time when agricultural productivity increased as a result of synthetic herbicides, chemical fertilizers and pesticides.
Education Portal explains that chemical fertilizers helped supply crops with additional nutrients, which increased productivity and crop yield. The Green Revolution reduced production costs and prices of food. However, the use of pesticides, fertilizers and herbicides increased erosion and pollution. Increased use of pesticides and herbicides polluted the soil and water surrounding farm areas.
