To pop your ears, suck on a hard candy or chew bubble gum. Alternatively, yawn widely or pinch your nostrils closed, inhale air into your mouth and force the air into your nose. Gargling salt water every hour also helps pop the ears.
- Suck on hard candy or chew gum
Suck on hard candy or chew gum to induce repeated swallowing and unclog the ear tubes. Chewing on gum can also relieve some of the pain associated with ear pressure.
- Yawn widely
Yawn as widely as possible to stretch the ear tubes. If you are unable to yawn, repeatedly stretching the mouth open and closed works.
- Pinch your nostrils closed
Pinch your nostrils closed, and inhale deeply. Close your mouth, and hold your breath. Use your cheek muscles to force the air gently into your nose. Repeat this process as many times as needed to make the ears pop.
- Gargle salt water
Pour 1/2 to 3/4 teaspoon of salt into 1 cup of very warm filtered water. Stir the salt into the water until it completely dissolves. Pour a small amount of the salt water into your mouth, tip your head back and gargle. Gargle salt water every hour until the ears pop.
