Periwinkle is a color that is in the purple, violet, blue and indigo family. It is also known as lavender blue, and is a pale, pastel indigo color with minimal saturation. Similar colors include lavender mist, melrose, light logan, light chetwood blue, light moody blue and perano.
Periwinkle gets its name from the color of the blossoms that are produced by an herb called lesser periwinkle, myrtle or Vinca minor. Periwinkle is the color of various awareness ribbons, including ribbons for esophageal cancer, stomach cancer and pulmonary hypertension. Periwinkle has winter and ice connotations, and represents feelings of tranquility, serenity and relaxation.
