The eye belongs to the nervous system, which is responsible for sending, receiving and processing information sent through nerve impulses. The optic nerve is part of the eye and part of the central nervous system.
Sight is made possible by several structures. including the conjuctiva, the sclera, the cornea, the pupil, the iris, the lens, the retina, the fovea and a network of muscles, nerves and ligaments. According to Hyper Physics, the fovea is responsible for the sharpest vision and the best perception of color. The retina is made up of rods and cones that send information to the brain via the optic nerve.
