What Is a Normal DHEA Level?
Last Updated Mar 27, 2020 5:22:52 PM ET
According to the University of Rochester Medical Center, the normal ranges for DHEA in nanograms per milliliter form are 1.0 to 9.5 in adult men and 0.4 to 3.7 in adult women. Normal DHEA levels vary with age and gender.
A normal DHEA level means adrenal glands are working properly. A low DHEA level likely signifies that adrenal glands are not producing enough hormones. DHEA levels are tested via a blood sample. The Universtiy of Rochester notes that it is important for women to test DHEA levels at least one week before or after their menstruation to avoid affected test results, and both genders should notify their doctor if they take any nutritional supplements.
