RxList states that neomycin and polymyxin B sulfates are used to treat ear infections. They are antibiotic and anti-inflammatory solutions specifically for use in the ear, which is referred to as otic use.
RxList further states that neomycin and polymyxin B sulfates form Cortisporin Otic Solution, which is used to treat infections in the outer ear caused by bacteria. These infections are commonly known as swimmer's ear. Stinging or burning in the ear may occur upon application of the solution, but these are usually temporary side effects that only last up to 2 minutes after application. A generic form of Cortisporin Otic Solution is also available. It is suggested that adults use this solution in the infected ear three to four times a day.
