Spindles at opposite poles of the cell split the chromosomes into two halves called chromatids. Sister chromatids are complimentary not identical. Daughter cells, therefore, are not identical until DNA replication replaces the missing DNA. Successful mitosis results in each cell containing exactly one chromatid from each chromosome.
