Earth Hour is the name of a global annual event dedicated to heightening awareness of climate change. It is an hour in which people are invited to show their commitment to caring for the planet by switching off all non-essential lights and electrical appliances.

Earth Hour began in Sydney in 2007 and has since grown to over 7,000 cities worldwide. It takes place from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. local time on the last Saturday in March. The goal of this hour is to encourage individuals to think about their everyday energy consumption and what can be done to reduce it. Earth Hour is organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature.
