Six Apollo missions, specifically Apollo 11, 12, 14, 15, 16 and 17, landed on the moon between 1969 and 1972. Apollo 13 was also supposed to land on the moon but failed to do so due to a spacecraft malfunction.
Apollo was an 11-mission program by NASA designed to send people to the moon and bring them back to Earth safely. The first four missions tested the spacecraft, and six of the remaining seven missions landed on the moon. The first manned mission to land on the moon was Apollo 11. Twelve astronauts walked on the moon, studying its surface and collecting moon rocks.
