Football fields are measured in yards, with the length of the field being 100 yards. Many items sold in bulk are sold by the yard, including fabric, gravel and rope. When trying to measure a yard without a ruler, a good way to determine this length is by remembering the distance from the tip of the nose to the fingers on an outstretched hand equals nearly a yard.
