The loin is located below the rib cage just below the pelvis on the human body, according to Reference.com. Commonly referred to as loins, the loin area of the human body refers specifically to the sides below the ribs that includes the human genitals.

The term loin or loins is also referred to as the area below the belt on the human body and the area of the anatomy that is covered by underwear. Reference.com notes that the loin cloth, another term for an undergarment, was named after the area it covers, which includes the genitals and pelvic area.
