Asbestos is a mineral once commonly used in construction as electrical and building insulation. Prolonged inhalation of asbestos can cause malignant lung cancer, mesothelioma, asbestosis and other serious, fatal illnesses.
The use of asbestos in construction is now banned in many developed countries, including the European Union, Hong Kong, Australia, Japan and New Zealand.
