The interstitial cells of the testes are responsible for the production of androgenic substances. Androgenic substances found in the testes are the sex hormones in males. The dominant androgenic substance created by the testes is testosterone.
Interstitial cells of the testes are located between the seminiferous tubules within a lobule. There are around 250 lobules located in each of the testis, which are about 2 inches long and 1 inch in diameter. There are one to four highly coiled seminiferous tubules that converge into a single straight tubule that leads to the rete testis. Sperm are produced inside the seminiferous tubules by spermatogenesis.
