Neundorfer, Inc., a provider of electrostatic precipitators, defines them as large, industrial emission-control units. The company goes on to state that the precipitators clean emissions by charging dust particles and then depositing them on a collection device.
According to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, electrostatic precipitators are capable of removing particulates between 0.1 to 10 microns in size. These precipitators have an advantage over other kinds of emission-control systems, because they can process gas at extremely high temperatures, up to 1300 degrees Fahrenheit. This process allows industrial manufacturing processes to operate without releasing harmful chemicals or substances into the air.
