Examples of mineral salts include sodium, calcium, ammonium phosphate, potassium, magnesium, chlorine, sulphur and phosphorus. Mineral salts are naturally occurring inorganic substances that are extracted from below the ground surface.

Some of these mineral salts are also found in vegetables, fresh fruits, milk, whole grains, legumes, meats, poultry, nuts, eggs and sea food. Table salt is the most commonly used mineral salt. It is mainly composed of sodium chloride and is essential for both humans and animals.

Minerals salts are essential for the human body, as they help the body to function properly. They contain micro elements such as iodine, zinc, fluoride and iron. These are the essential nutrients needed in the human body. Without these essential mineral salts, health problems such as fatigue, anemia, anxiety, goiter, weakness and insomnia will develop.

Some of these mineral salts are also used as anti-caking agents in food products. They are used in food products, among these are soft drinks, beer, fizzy drinks, canned foods, cheese, bread, jelly and baked goods.

Minerals salts are used in animal diet, food preservation and food seasoning. They are used in the preparation of sodium hydroxide, caustic soda, chlorine, metallic sodium and soda ash. They are used in ceramic glazes, curing of hides, photography, nuclear reactors, home water softeners, mouthwash and mineral waters.
