A good example of an investigatory project is the use of cogon grass to make cardboard food packaging. The amount of cogon resin and other ingredients was made constant, while the measure of starch was different for every treatment.
Cogon grass (Imperata cylindrica) underwent a process of cutting, boiling and crushing to get the pulp. Five different treatments were performed to produce cardboard. Being biodegradable, cardboard made from cogon can be a good alternative for use in making food containers. Food packaging made from paper cardboard has begun to replace Styrofoam in restaurants. The results of this investigatory project can be used to find out if cogon grass can be a good substitute for trees in the production of cardboard.
