What Is Environmental Preservation?

Environmental preservation occurs when humans intentionally avoid encroaching into natural environments, such as forests and waterways. The goal is to preserve important natural resources by minimizing use of raw materials in production and development.

Individuals often take steps to preserve natural resources, but the term "environmental preservation" is most associated with business policies. Companies that proactively preserve environmental resources are often known as "green-friendly." One example of a business engaging in environmental preservation is a manufacturer replanting trees and avoiding harvesting from new forests. The push in the auto industry to more hybrid or electric cars is intended to preserve limited fossil fuels and protect the atmosphere.
