Last Updated Mar 25, 2020 7:52:26 PM ET

One of the main reasons that environmental management is important is to promote health and safety within the workplace. Even workplaces that are not considered dangerous have other risks associated with them, and with effective management, those risks can be lowered significantly.
Laws, such as the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, fall under the umbrella of environmental management. Known as OSHA, these health and safety regulations ensure employee rights in the event of accidents, and regulate employers so that every workplace is safe, and meets minimum standard requirements. OSHA also provides training, education and assistance for employers and employees.
