Ecological assessment refers to the monitoring of ecological resources to determine current and changing conditions. It is a process of evaluating the likelihood that the environment may have been affected as a result of being exposed to environmental stressors, including chemicals, disease, climate change and land change.
Ecological assessment provides an unbiased platform of determining success or failure of the ecosystem and helps in developing improved management options. It is useful in supporting several types of actions, such as regulation of hazardous waste sites, pesticides and industrial chemicals. In addition, it helps in the management of watersheds and other ecosystems affected by diverse physical, chemical and biological stressors and predicts those stressors' future effects.
