The United States, which was the world's biggest polluter until 2007, produces the second-largest amount of greenhouse gases each year, just slightly less than China at 5.8 billion tons. Russia, the third-biggest polluter in the world, produces 1.7 billion tons of carbon dioxide each year. The fourth-largest polluter in the world is India, producing 1.3 billion tons of carbon dioxide annually. Japan, Germany, Canada, the United Kingdom, South Korea and Iran round out the rest of the top-10 polluting nations in the world.
