What Is Cell Metabolism?

Cell metabolism involves several complex biochemical reactions that occur in living organisms to maintain a normal life. These metabolic pathways are broadly classified as anabolism and catabolism.

Cell metabolism consists of several chemical reactions that take place through different biochemical pathways in living organisms. According to Tocris, these metabolic pathways ensure that the living organisms sustain, develop, grow and reproduce.

The two metabolic pathways of anabolism and catabolism involve different reactions. Catabolism involves oxidation reactions that are accompanied with the release of energy. Anabolism, on the other hand, involves the synthesis of complex molecules through a reduction reaction, wherein cells expend energy in the form of ATP molecules.
