Reducing personal energy usage is the most effective way to help stop global warming, as the Natural Resources Defense Council explains. The burning of fossil fuels, such as oil and coal, is the biggest cause of global warming, because fossil fuels release carbon dioxide into the air.Continue Reading
To reduce personal energy usage, choose renewable energy sources to power your home. If possible, choose a certified e-green energy supplier that generates at least half of its power from wind or solar sources.
If an e-green supplier is not available, consider how to use less power in the home by switching to energy-efficient light bulbs or raising the thermostat in the summer and lowering it in the winter. Compact fluorescent light bulbs last 10 times longer than incandescent bulbs and keep half a ton of carbon dioxide out of the air.
Choose an energy-efficient vehicle, such as a hybrid or plug-in hybrid, which allows you to use less fossil fuel. Properly inflate the tires on vehicles for better fuel efficiency. If all Americans properly inflated their tires, fuel usage would drop by 2 percent, according to the Natural Resources Defense Council. Install a new air filter, which can increase mileage per gallon by up to 10 percent. Drive less, choose public transportation when available, or bike and walk if possible.Learn more about Human Impact
