Motion sensor wiring diagrams typically includes the sensor, a hot wire, a neutral wire and an output device, such as a light or fan. The sensor sits between the hot wire and the wire to the output device, taking the place of a conventional light switch.
When the motion sensor activates, the circuit closes and sends power to the output device. Many motion sensor setups also include a ground wire for safety. Multiple motion sensors or output devices may also be chained in one circuit. The wiring diagram for this type of setup will be more complicated due to the extra connections between items.
