Full Answer

Pandas are found in the wild only in China, inhabiting rugged isolated terrain around the central part of the country. As of 2014, there are estimated to be only about 1,000 pandas remaining, excluding the estimated 100 that are in captivity. These creatures live, on average, for about 20 years in a natural habitat. Pandas weigh around 300 pounds, and can grow to more than 5 foot tall. While these bears are still physically omnivorous, they prefer to eat bamboo, a relatively indigestible substance. They therefore need close to 30 pounds of it on a daily basis.
