Atrium doors typically resemble French doors but are only operational on one side. According to Floyd Exteriors, atrium doors are more energy efficient and cost less. They have one or more glass panes surrounded by a frame and are traditionally made of wood.
Both atrium doors and French doors are common options for doors leading to backyards, decks and patios. Some atrium doors have metal-clad exteriors for better durability and weather resistance. Retractable screens can be added to exterior atrium doors to protect the interior from bugs. These screens slide back in front of the fixed door when not in use.
