Ponds are home to a diverse array of animals including water striders. The majority of creatures that live on a pond, however, are insects and amphibians.
Spiders, crayfish, leeches and turtles live in ponds around the world. Ponds are also home to a variety of frog species and some fish, if the pond is stocked routinely. Plant life is also abundant in ponds including duckweeds and lily pads. Though invisible to the naked eye, ponds also contain a diverse array of microorganisms such as protists and bacteria. These microorganisms provide food for some of the insects, animals and fish that live in the pond.
